Omega-3 Fatty Acids
Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid, which plays crucial roles in many bodily functions such as promoting circulatory, heart, eye, joint and brain health.
There are three main types of omega-3, namely:
1. Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA)
Vital for good brain and eye health and mainly found in deep sea fish
2. Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA)
Helps reduce inflammation and provides cardiovascular benefits. Similar to DHA, it is mainly found in deep sea fish
3. Alpha-linolenic acid (ALA)
Found mainly in plants including vegetable oil, flaxseed, chia seeds and walnuts, ALA is not active unless it gets converted into EPA and DHA. However, only very little amount get converted. Therefore, it is more efficient to get DHA and EPA directly from fish.
