Sodium Hyaluronate
Sodium hyaluronate is an ingredient that is extracted from Hyaluronic Acid (HA). It’s the water-soluble salt form of HA that are bio-engineered to increase its stability and reduce the likelihood of oxidisation.
Both sodium hyaluronate and HA can be commonly found in skin care products and cosmetics to hydrate and retain skin moisture. As compared to HA, sodium hyaluronate has a smaller molecular size that allows it to penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin. When applied topically, it can reach into the epidermis (top layer of the skin) to attract water and improve hydration, resulting in a softer, smoother and fuller appearance.
Other than the beauty industry, sodium hyaluronate injection is also used to treat knee pain associated with osteoarthritis when patients have not responded well to the other arthritis medications. It acts as a lubricant and shock absorber in the joint, allowing the knee to move smoothly, thereby lessening pain.
